π River Safety Reminder π As we move into the warmer months, we know more people will be spending time near the River Ouse and surrounding waterways in York city centre. While itβs great to enjoy the sunshine, weβd like to remind everyone to stay safe around the river. β
Please remember: Avoid swimming or entering the river β currents can be strong and unpredictable, even on calm days.Steep banks, tidal changes and hidden hazards make the river particularly dangerous.Alcohol and water do not mix β impaired judgement is a major risk factor.Keep children and pets under close supervision at all times near the water.Look out for one another and challenge risky behaviour where itβs safe to do so.π¨ If someone falls into the river or is in trouble: Call 999 immediately and ask for the Fire Service or Coastguard.Do not enter the water yourself β use life rings or throw something that floats if available.Keep visual contact and give clear instructions if possible.York is a beautiful city to enjoy in the sunshine β letβs make sure everyone gets home safely.
